Healthy Sips for the Whole Family: Three Delicious Drinks Your Family Will Love (Without All the Extra Sugar)

"She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar."Proverbs 31:14

One of the things I love most is gathering around the table with my family. Whether it's breakfast together, dinner after a busy day, or simply sitting outside on a warm summer afternoon, there's something special about sharing a meal with the people you love.

As moms and wives, we spend a lot of time thinking about what we feed our families. The Proverbs 31 woman didn't simply provide food; she was intentional. The Bible says, "She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar." She took the time to provide what was good for her household, and I believe that's still a beautiful example for us today.

O

ne area I've become very intentional about in our home is what my family drinks.

For our family, water is the foundation. It's what we drink most often because it's one of the healthiest things we can put into our bodies. But let's be honest...sometimes we all want something with a little more flavor, especially during the summer or while enjoying a meal together.

Rather than filling our refrigerator with expensive drinks loaded with high-fructose corn syrup, artificial colors, and ingredients we can't pronounce, we've found a few simple alternatives that are healthier, cost-effective, and absolutely delicious.

With a family of nine, buying bottled drinks just isn't practical. They disappear almost as quickly as they're purchased! Instead, we've started making our own teas at home, and they've become family favorites.

Here are three of our favorites.

Strawberry Hibiscus Tea

Hibiscus tea is one of the most refreshing drinks we make. It has a naturally bright, fruity flavor that tastes wonderful over ice.

Not only is it delicious, but hibiscus is rich in antioxidants and may help support healthy blood pressure, heart health, and reduce inflammation. It's one of those simple drinks that tastes like a treat while also being good for you.

Recipe

  • 5 hibiscus tea bags

  • Standard glass pitcher (about 1 gallon)

  • Boiling water

  • 1 cup organic turbinado sugar (or regular sugar if that's what you have)

Directions

Steep the tea bags in hot water for about one hour.

Remove the tea bags and stir in the sugar while the tea is still warm so it dissolves completely.

Allow the tea to cool, refrigerate, and serve over plenty of ice.

Berry Tea

One of our family's favorites is Celestial Seasonings Berry Tea. They have several berry varieties, and they're all wonderful.

This tea has become a staple in our home because it's affordable, easy to make, and the kids absolutely love it.

Recipe

  • 3-4 Celestial Seasonings Berry Tea bags

  • Glass pitcher

  • Boiling water

  • 1 cup organic turbinado sugar (or regular sugar)

Directions

Steep the tea for about one hour.

Remove the tea bags.

Stir in the sugar while the tea is still warm.

Refrigerate and serve over ice.

Simple, refreshing, and perfect for summer.

Honey Lemon Green Tea

Most people think of green tea as something you drink hot.

Try it over ice!

This is probably one of the healthiest drinks we make. Green tea contains powerful antioxidants that support overall wellness, and the fresh lemon and honey give it an incredibly refreshing flavor.

Recipe

  • 4 green tea bags

  • Glass pitcher

  • Boiling water

  • 1 cup organic turbinado sugar

  • ¼ cup honey

  • Juice of ½ to 1 fresh lemon

Directions

Steep the tea for about one hour.

Remove the tea bags.

While the tea is still warm, stir in the sugar and honey until dissolved.

Squeeze in the fresh lemon juice.

Allow to cool, refrigerate, and enjoy over ice.

A Small Change Can Make a Big Difference

Healthy living doesn't always require dramatic changes. Sometimes it begins with one simple decision.

For our family, choosing homemade teas instead of sugary store-bought drinks has been one of those simple changes that has made a real difference. They're inexpensive, easy to prepare, refreshing, and something our whole family enjoys together.

As you care for your family this month, remember that the little choices we make every day often have the greatest impact over time.

Here's to nourishing the people we love, one glass at a time.
